I am attempting to install Vista (beta 2 x64) on my Athlon 64 system and I'm getting the aforementioned error code during the installation. I looked around on google and this newsgroup and found many, many references to bad downloads. Clearly, not the case in this situation. Is there any way to determine if my dvd is corrupt? Anyone know if Microsoft will send me another one? I'm going to try the x86 version of the DVD and see what happens, but in the mean time if anyone has any suggestions on how to troubleshoot and/or resolve this error, well, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Attempting to install with the x86 generates the same error. This would lead me to believe that there must be some sort of hardware issue at hand.
First off, what sort of hardware are you installing on?
I've had nothing but trouble with the 80070241 error tryng to install onto my SATA system, in particular using the VIA chipset. I switch over to an IDE drive and it installs just fine.
Did you have XP or some other OS installed on your computer before trying to install Vista? If you did and didn't have any problems then your hardware is fine.
In the end it's probably a driver issue. Microsoft just missed the boat with the VIA chipset it seems. After a month of trying, I just gave up and went back to XP.

Sigh, unforunately not. I ended up having to give up. I was attempting to install it to a second (clean) harddrive I had in the system. Tried again with RC1 I believe it was, and still failed miserably. Sorry I have nothing to add :/
You do NOT have RTM at all........it's not even on sale yet. "mupet0000" wrote in message
